Are things back to normal yet?

So I took March off. Aaaannnd April. Seriously, every time I looked at my laptop with the thought of blogging, I felt like this (see picture to your left). A passing comment in email from my friend Keith made me ponder though, are things back to normal yet?

I think I got a little burnt out during the earthquake aftermath...

Georgia

Introducing our very own little Georgia Peach.

Miss Georgia is a happy little 2 month old (approx.) who likes playing with other dogs, playing with squeek toys and long cuddles on the bed. She's fully vaccinated, guaranteed to be sterilized when she's old enough, very healthy with a wonderful, friendly attitude and already knows her name.

I found her lying in the weeds and trash, barely able to move. She was maybe 2 weeks old, if that. As I mentioned in a previous post, the Vet was actually shocked at how covered in fleas she was. I believe the phrase "Being eaten alive" was mentioned. When I finally got her home after being cleaned up at the vet, she was a big bundle of scabs with patches of hair. I spent the first week just getting her to drink warm milk with water and eat whenever I could get her to. Her very first night with us, I tucked her into one dog kennel with a hot water bottle and her fellow rescued pup Stella was in the kennel next to her. In the morning, I found Georgia had made her way over to Stella's kennel and they were curled up together. She's like that. She likes to be with people or with other dogs. That's the kind of home we'd like to find for her.

Georgia was born on the street. I know her baby mama, she lives on the same street I found her baby on.  No one claims her, everyone feeds her here and there and she sleeps in the shade when she can find it. It's the same story that's retold in every town up and down this country. And yeah, it's depressing. With a problem that's so prevalent, where do you start to even make a dent or any sort of difference? Well you have to start somewhere, right? We started with little Georgia. She's alive when she probably wouldn't be otherwise. She's happy and healthy and incredibly sweet. She shows every promise of becoming a great dog and a great addition to a family who's willing to go the distance with her which is what we're hoping to find for her.

On a side note to our friends back home or any interested parties who want to help... the vets here are cheaper than North America, but they're still not free. Their check-ups, vaccines and food bills do add up. Stella will be coming for a visit in a few months to get fixed and that's a larger bill and then we'll have to get Georgia fixed as well. Anything you're able to help out with is much appreciated, be it a donation or if you're in Chile, a recommendation as to who might be able to offer Georgia a home.

Here are some pictures to show how far she's come. I didn't take any during her first couple weeks with us because, honestly, she looked so pathetic it seemed mean. She's beautiful now.

C'mon. You know you want her.

  2. We're located in El Quisco in the Valparaiso Region but are willing to make travel arrangements if need be. I think she will be a large-ish dog. It's hard to say because she was the runt of the litter but has gone through a couple growth spurts now and is doing well. She does have big paws though. It's hilarious watching her run around with them and her awkward puppy gait. So cute.

Do Something Nice

There is a terrible stray animal problem here in Chile. We try to do our part and take them in when we can, get them vaccinated and sterilized but the costs add up. Any help you send our way is much appreciated, Thank You! .
